chart comparing PU PVC and TPR vac hose from Flexaust

PVC Hose (or Polyvinyl Chloride Hose), PU Hose (Polyurethane Hose) and TPR Hose (Thermoplastic Rubber Hose) are three common types of materials used in hoses and ducting for residential, commercial and industrial applications. The different materials provide varying temperature range, abrasion resistance, and wall thickness requirements that make them a good, better, and best fit for different applications. Our Vac Hose Chart has helped many customers chose the right product for their leaf and lawn vac hose needs, but we wanted to discuss the different materials the hoses are made of to help you understand why some are a good, better or best option for your application.

PVC Hose (Polyvinyl Chloride Hose) GOOD

PVC, or Polyvinyl Chloride has been used in hose construction manufacturing for many years due to its excellent mechanical properties, chemical properties and lower cost.It is typically used for operations that do not involve exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, UV radiation, or abrasive materials. PVC are typically the BEST OPTION for transporting acidic materials.

TPR Hose (Thermopastic Rubber Hose) BETTER

TPR hoses offer an improved abrasion resistance and smoother interior wall. This provides minimal friction loss and efficient airflow. TPR Vac Hoses are generally recommended for applications that involve low or high temperatures, exposure to chemicals, exposure to moisture, and outdoor use (UV exposure).

PU Hose (Polyurethane Hose) BEST

PU Vac Hose, when compared to PVC and TPR hoses, are typically your BEST Choice for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. PU hoses have great abrasion and chemical resistance, higher tear strength, better vacuum and pressure ratings, and good flexibility in low temperatures. Despite their higher cost, polyurethane hoses have become, at most times, as cost-effective for many applications and a better option than PVC hoses or TPR hoses for most applications due to their durability and efficiency for many more demanding applications. PU Hoses offer better flexibility than PVC Hoses- especially at lower temperatures when PVC hoses can Strat to harden.
